Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 22, 2025

Efiewura ("we", "us", "our") operates the Efiewura website (including efiewura.app and related domains), mobile applications, landlord tools, APIs, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect personal data when you use our Services as a visitor, renter, buyer, host, landlord, agent, organisation member, or other user.

By using the Services, you acknowledge this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services. This Policy is designed to align with common marketplace practice and data-protection expectations; it is not legal advice. For jurisdiction-specific rights, contact us or seek independent counsel.

1. Who we are & scope

The data controller for personal data processed through the Services is the operating entity behind Efiewura (referred to as "Efiewura"). Contact: support@efiewura.app.

This Policy applies to: browsing our marketing site; searching and viewing listings; creating and managing accounts; posting or managing property listings; messaging; scheduling inspections or visits; wallet, payments, or billing flows connected to our platform; video/media features; analytics; customer support; and any feature we offer now or later.

2. Personal data we collect

Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect:

  • Identity & profile: name, username, photo, bio, organisation affiliation, verification status, and similar profile fields.
  • Contact details: email address, phone number, messaging handles, and addresses you provide for listings or account recovery.
  • Account & auth: credentials, security tokens, device/session identifiers, login history, and fraud-prevention signals from our infrastructure providers.
  • Listing & property content: titles, descriptions, photos, videos, location/area data, pricing, availability, amenities, rules, and documents you upload.
  • Transaction & billing: payment-related metadata (e.g. references, status, amounts in local currency), wallet activity, invoices, tax identifiers where required, and records required for accounting and disputes. Card data is typically handled by certified payment processors — we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Communications: messages, support tickets, call logs where recorded with notice, and feedback you send us or other users through in-product channels.
  • Usage & device: IP address, approximate location derived from IP or device settings, browser/app version, pages viewed, clicks, search queries, referral URLs, crash logs, diagnostics, and timestamps.
  • Cookies & similar technologies: cookies, local storage, pixels, and SDKs used for security, preferences, analytics (e.g. Google Analytics where enabled), and performance measurement.
  • Third-party data: information from identity/verification partners, mapping providers, analytics vendors, app stores, or social sign-in, limited to what you authorise or what those partners disclose under their terms.

3. How we use personal data

  • Provide, operate, secure, and improve the Services — including search, maps, recommendations, notifications, and landlord dashboards.
  • Create and manage accounts; authenticate users; prevent fraud, abuse, spam, and security incidents.
  • Facilitate discovery, enquiries, inspections, bookings, and communications between users.
  • Process payments, payouts, subscriptions, promotions, refunds, and disputes in line with applicable rules.
  • Comply with law, regulation, court orders, and lawful requests from public authorities.
  • Enforce our Terms, policies, and community standards; investigate complaints and misuse.
  • Send service messages (e.g. security alerts, receipts); with consent, send marketing where permitted.
  • Train and evaluate product quality using aggregated or de-identified data where appropriate.
  • Conduct analytics, research, and benchmarking in line with this Policy and your settings where applicable.

4. Legal bases (where applicable)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or similar jurisdictions, we rely on one or more of: performance of a contract with you; legitimate interests that are not overridden by your rights (e.g. fraud prevention, service improvement); consent where required (e.g. certain cookies or marketing); legal obligation; and, in limited cases, vital interests.

5. How we share personal data

We may share personal data with:

  • Other users — as needed to operate a marketplace (e.g. showing listing details, host identity, and messaging metadata). Never share sensitive codes or payment details in unsecured channels.
  • Service providers — hosting, database, authentication, email/SMS, maps, analytics, customer support tooling, video/CDN, and security vendors, under confidentiality and data-processing terms.
  • Payment processors — to authorise charges, payouts, and reconciliation (e.g. Paystack or other processors we integrate). Their privacy notices also apply.
  • Professional advisers — lawyers, auditors, insurers, where necessary.
  • Corporate transactions — in a merger, acquisition, financing, or asset sale, subject to safeguards.
  • Authorities — when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of users and the public.

We do not sell your personal data for money. We may use advertising or analytics tools that process data as described in their policies when those tools are enabled.

6. International transfers

Our infrastructure and partners may process data in Ghana and other countries. Where transfers require safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions), we implement appropriate measures. By using the Services, you understand that cross-border processing may occur.

7. Retention

We retain personal data for as long as your account is active, as needed to provide the Services, and as required by law (e.g. tax, anti-fraud, dispute resolution). Listing content may remain visible according to product rules after account closure where necessary for legitimate interests (e.g. completed transaction records). We may delete or anonymise data earlier when no longer needed.

8. Your rights & choices

Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to: access, correct, update, or delete personal data; restrict or object to certain processing; withdraw consent where processing is consent-based; data portability; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise rights, contact support@efiewura.app. We may verify your identity before fulfilling requests.

You can control cookies/browser settings, opt out of certain analytics where offered, and manage marketing preferences via links in emails or in-app settings when available.

9. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organisational measures designed to protect personal data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; you use the Services at your own risk and should use strong passwords and protect your devices.

11. Automated decision-making

We may use automated systems for ranking, fraud scoring, content moderation, and recommendations. These systems support human review where appropriate and are not intended to produce solely automated legal or similarly significant effects on you without rights available under applicable law.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version with an updated "Last updated" date and, where changes are material, provide additional notice (e.g. in-app or email). Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy where permitted by law.
